DHM Seminar - Pierre Jean & Simon Pla - Lab Streaming Layer (LSL) 101 & Basics

    14h00

EuroMov Digital Health in Motion, Univ Montpellier, IMT Mines Ales, Montpellier, France

DHM Seminar - Ruud den Hartigh - The development of excellent performance in sport: A dynamic network approach

    14h00

    University of Groningen

    Abstract
Across different sports, athletes develop their talent in various ways. This means that the trajectories to the top look differently between athletes (e.g., gradual increase, S-shaped, step-wise, etc.). The underlying components that shape the athletes' talent development trajectories (e.g., training, genetic endowment, psychological and physical factors, etc.) are also undergoing change in individual-specific ways. Any model of sports talent should thus account for these developmental properties. In this talk, I will demonstrate how simulations of dynamic models can be used to uncover the theoretical foundation underlying talent development.

DHM Seminar - Benjamin O’Brien - Sonification and speech: recent research on auditory feedback based on human movement

    14h00

Laboratoire Informatique d’Avignon (LIA) Université d’Avignon

    RESUME:
The auditory feedback based on human movements and manipulations happens routinely in our daily lives: from speaking on the phone to playing a musical instrument; from hearing a helicopter in the sky to parking a car in the street. More complex forms of analysis and production of auditory feedback have the potential to influence a myriad of human processes, however, any effects are constrained to key factors such as the contexts of their display and the experiences of their actors. A principal interest in my research has focused on how specialised individuals, such as athletes, pilots, and people with speech pathologies, use or produce auditory feedback based on human movement. In this seminar I will present findings on research conducted at ISM, LPL, and LIA.

    BIO
Benjamin O’Brien (PhD) is a researcher and composer working in the interdisciplinary fields of psychoacoustics, human movement, and language processing. His research centers on auditory processing of sonification, voice perception, and speech pathology. He holds degrees in composition, mechanical and physical engineering, and mathematics from the University of Florida (PhD), Aix-Marseille University (MS), Mills College (MA), and the University of Virginia (BA). He has held research positions at the Institut des Sciences du Mouvement (UMR 7287) and Laboratoire Parole et Langage (UMR 7309). He currently lives in Marseille, where he is a post-doctorate researcher at the Laboratoire Informatique d’Avignon (LIA, Université d’Avignon) and a member of the Big Band du CNRS.

DHM Seminar - Benoit Bardy & Marta Bienkiewicz - Embodied Social Experiences in Hybrid Shared Spaces (SHARESPACE)

    14h00

EuroMov Digital Health in Motion, Univ Montpellier, IMT Mines Ales, Montpellier, France

SHARESPACE (2023-2025) is the new EuroMov DHM European project (HORIZON-CL4-2022-HUMAN-01-14). It aims to demonstrate a radically new technology for promoting ethical and social interaction in eXtended Reality (XR) Shared Hybrid Spaces (SHS), anchored in human sensorimotor communication. Our core concept is to identify and segment social sensorimotor primitives and reconstruct them in hybrid settings to build continuous, embodied, and rich human-avatar experiences. To achieve this, three interconnected science-towards-technology breakthroughs will be delivered: novel computational cognitive architectures, a unique self-calibrating body sensor network, and a fully mobile spatial Augmented Reality (AR) and virtual human rendering. Our approach will be iteratively tested in 2 Proofs-of-principles involving human and artificial agents interacting in SHS, and 3 real-world use case scenarios in Health, Sport and Art. We will demonstrate a fully functional prototype of SHARESPACE tailored to the agents’ personalized characteristics (gender, culture, and social dispositions). SHARESPACE will support community-building and exploitation with concrete initiatives, including (i) public engagement around our research and innovation, (ii) promoting high-tech innovation and early transfer to our deep-tech companies, as premises for the consolidation of human-centric and sovereign European market areas such Industry AR and SHS, eHealth and tele-Health. Our long-term vision is to bring XR to a radically new level of presence and sociality by reconstructing sensorimotor primitives that enable ethical, trusted and inclusive modes of social interaction.
